“You may fool me, but you can’t fool God! Standing
behind him, Michaelis saw with a shock that he was looking at the eyes of
Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, which had just emerged, pale and enormous, from the
dissolving night.” (Pg. 159-160)
I believe the eyes of TJ Eckleburg symbolize how
though it was only a billboard he still watched over all the people around him
with a judgmental, approving, and disapproving look. It shows the disapproval in the lack of morality shown by the characters throughout the book.
